Veterinary Surgery
We offer a wide range of veterinary surgical procedures for cats and dogs at our veterinary hospital, using stringent surgical protocols.
A professional nurse will provide anesthesia and continually monitor your pet with electronic patient monitoring equipment. In addition, pain management will be offered as well.
Post-operative monitoring and pain management are our priorities following veterinary surgery. Your pets doctor will also provide thorough instructions for at-home care.
What to Expect from Pet Surgery
We make sure to keep you up-to-date on why we are proposing a surgical treatment and are clear about any post-operative care your pet may require at home. At our facility, we follow strict surgical standards.
Veterinary Surgical Procedures
At Diablo View Veterinary Medical Hospital, we perform surgeries to help treat disease and conditions or to repair injuries sustained through trauma.
Our Diablo View vet surgeons routinely perform the following elective and non-elective surgeries:
- Soft Tissue Surgery
For pets suffering from ear, nose, and throat disorders, we offer soft tissue surgical procedures.
These procedures are also available for hepatic, urogenital, oncological, gastrointestinal, and skin disorders.
- Spaying & Neutering
When we spay or neuter a cat or dog, we surgically sterilize them to prevent disease and provide them with an extended life expectancy.
- Dental Surgery
Our veterinary surgeons provide dental surgeries for dogs and cats. These surgeries can range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment.
The Veterinary Surgery Process
The prospect of bringing your pet in for surgery can be frightening, but please be assured that we recommend surgery only when it is in the best interests of your furry companion.
We will make sure you fully understand why we are recommending veterinary surgery and that you are comfortable making the decision to move ahead.
If your pet requires advanced care, our team will refer you to a specialist near Pleasant Hill, and work closely with your veterinary surgeon to ensure that your pet receives the best possible care.
Surgical protocols at our hospital include:
Pre-surgical assessments: We will confirm the surgery details, do a physical examination of the patient and ensure that blood tests have been conducted and evaluated by the veterinarian in order to identify if your pet is at risk of anesthesia-related problems.
Dedicated surgical suites: Surgeries are performed in a dedicated surgical suite. This room is kept completely sterile to prevent infection and cross-contamination.
Surgical attire: Whenever they are in the surgical suite, all staff wear disposable caps and masks. Those involved in the procedure itself will also wear sterile gowns and single-use gloves.
Sterile packs and equipment: We make sure to carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment before every surgery.
